20 years ago (1982)

Strong back court performances from Mary Lofstrom and Jane Larson, both in ball handling and scoring, helped Coach Roger Nibbe's rangy Brainerd High School Warriorettes to a 38-37 season opening win at Wadena.

30 years ago (1972)

The Upper Midwest Council has predicted Minnesota's population will increase by 717,000 between 1970 and 1985, matching the national growth prediction of 19 percent. Areas such as that between Brainerd and Bemidji, the report says, can expect a 21 percent population growth.

40 years ago (1962)

Santa arrives in Brainerd Friday, Nov. 23. He will headquarter in the old Carlson Clothing at 7th and Front streets. Yes, the lights will go on ... the stores will have extra night openings. There will be gigantic displays of merchandise -- All in Brainerd!

60 years ago (1942)

Miss Betty Turcotte, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Turcotte, celebrated her fifth birthday anniversary Friday afternoon at a party given at her home, 416 Oak Street.

80 years ago (1922)

A party of high school students expect to attend the Minnesota-Michigan Football game in the cities Saturday. In this party are Russell Hagberg, Vernon Dieckhaus and Virgil Quanstrom.
