DEERWOOD -- Two people escaped serious injury Thursday after the vehicle they were in collided with a train on Crooked Road, just off North Nelson Road in Irondale Township, southwest of Deerwood.
The accident happened about 12:12 p.m., the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Department reported.
There were two people in the vehicle, a Ford sports utility vehicle, at the time of the accident. The driver refused medical treatment, a State Patrol trooper who was assisting at the scene said, and a passenger was transported to the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby. Information on the passenger's condition was unavailable.
The vehicle was driving southeast on Crooked Road when it collided with a westbound train. The SUV had major front- and rear-end damage.
It was unclear what led to the collision. The dirt road on either side of the train tracks was snow covered.
Sheriff's deputies and supervisors could not be reached for any information about this crash. Numerous messages this morning were unanswered.
