Building a new elementary school closer to where the children live seems like a sensible solution. We should invest in a 21st century elementary school and not rely on stop-gap measures to serve our children. After all they are our future. It couldn't have been easy for taxpayers in the 1940s to raise the money to build our existing schools. Those buildings are out of date now and it is our turn to step up and meet the needs of our kids.
Leaf burning
Baxter residents, enough of the leaf burning! You know who you are. You're the ones who think because you're burning out in your backyard it's not affecting anyone. The stench and the smoke drifts into your neighbors' homes, sometimes further than you think. It burns my eyes and even my children are complaining and I don't even have allergies! Be a good neighbor, use a mower and chop them up or ask a neighbor to assist and let them decompose. Besides it's good for the lawn!
Everybody suffers
For all of you nonprofit organizations that do so much wonderful work throughout the community, you can thank certain members of the fire department for having your dunk tank filled, taken away. Because of what happened at the fire department, now everybody suffers.
More details needed
I appreciate school attempts to take input on pending decisions, but remain concerned about limits on information provided during such meetings. A host of questions critical to the decision remain unanswered in the grade school situation. What steps could be taken to insure fourth-graders would be isolated from older kids in the Forestview choice? What federal/state monies might be available to upgrade Whittier as needed? What cost would be incurred in moving administration out of Washington and who might they displace where they end up? It's impossible to provide responsible input without more details on such questions.
Where's the safety?
Why is there no safety procedure in place at Lowell Elementary School for picking up children after school? I went to the school to pick my child up and was able to walk into the playground, find my child and take him out with not one person verifying that I was his mother or even acknowledging that I was taking a child off the school grounds.
Shame on you
To the woman in the black CR-V, traveling on 48 from Baxter Elementary on Thursday, shame on you for not buckling in your small child! It's illegal and, more important, it's dangerous.
