20 years ago (1989)

After an hour of spirited debate, the Crow Wing County Board voted 4-1 to create a tax-increment financing district for the proposed MacMillan Bloedel plant near Deerwood. The board room was filled with proponents of both sides of the issue.

30 years ago (1979)

Two new employees have joined the staff of the Brainerd Dispatch. Tom Crawford, 34, formerly with the Bemidji Pioneer, has been named city editor. Tim Bogenschutz, 29, of Albert Lea, has joined the staff as an ad salesman.

40 years ago (1969)

60 years ago (1949)

(Adv.) Yes Sir! A Complete Thanksgiving Dinner with All the Trimmings - Only $1.50 at the Vogue Supper Club and Dugout, on Laurel Street in Brainerd. Serving begins at 11 a.m.

80 years ago (1929)

An Ironton woman received the heaviest sentence of any of the 17 bootleggers and operators of beer and tippling parlors on her guilty plea before Judge Torrance. Her six months in jail plus $250 fine was due to this being her second conviction.

100 years ago (1909)

Rector J.R. Alten and members of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Brainerd, have special reason to enjoy Thanksgiving this year. Before the 10 a.m. service the choir will sing the "Te Deum" and the notes and mortgage will be burned, the church now being debt free.
