Flag thanks and apology

Posted: Saturday, November 21, 2009

The Brainerd Area Sertoma Club would like to thank the more than 350 businesses in the Brainerd-Baxter area for sponsoring the American flags seen flying by their places of business on holidays and special occasions.

As proud members of the Brained Lakes Area community Sertomans put up and take down American Flags along five routes on all national holidays, the Crow Wing County Fair Patriot's Day, and on 9/11. Weather can be a factor in putting up flags and we apologize for having to miss Veterans Day this year.

Again, thank you to our sponsors and thank you to the community for noticing our work.

Harrison School

Thanks to a very generous donation by the Baxter Walmart, all Harrison kindergarteners will be taking home their very own copy of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Included with the book is a parent section that will give parents many strategies for supporting their child's early literacy skills. The early love of words and stories is the cornerstone of ensuring the success of a life long learner. Thank you Walmart, for thinking about our youngest learners!

Community Day

I want to thank Herbergers for their Community Day promotion, which allows local 501(c)(3) organizations to sell the Community Day booklets for $5 and keep the entire $5.

It is a great fundraiser for these organizations, and a wonderful way in which Herbergers supports our community.

Kinship Partners

We live in a very caring and giving community! There are so many people to thank for helping make the Kinship Partners "Coats for Kids" a great event.

Thanks for all the coats, snow pants, boots, mittens and head gear that was donated. Thanks to Rick and Sue at Crystal Cleaners who cleaned many coats and snow pants.

Thanks to the Westgate Mall for the donated space and all its help. And thanks to all the volunteers who helped set up, helped with the distribution and clean up.

Many kids will be warm and dry this winter because of the generosity of many!

Deer Hunters

The Brainerd Lakes Area Minnesota Deer Hunters Associations wants to thank everyone who donated hides in the past. Last year, with other grant matches, every dollar earned from hide sales was leveraged to $7 in habitat improvement or securing hunting and recreation land for public use. This year for every dollar we invest in Conservation Projects $9 will be added. Making your hide worth $50 to $70 for local conservation projects being done.

Look for our orange boxes around the community marked Minnesota Deer Hunters Association or MDHA.

Please beware of the impostor boxes that are painted the same color as ours.

The Minnesota Deer Hunters Association hopes you have an enjoyable hunting season and good luck.
