Overnight temperatures dropped below zero as Brainerd received an early dose of bitter cold.

30 years ago (1975)

Ground-breaking ceremonies are scheduled Dec. 15 for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company's new building at Sixth and Maple, part of a four-year $7.8 million improvement project.

40 years ago (1965)

R.J. LaCourse was named "Pratmakare" of the Year by the Hub Coffee Club this morning. The award is made annually by the club, which has been meeting for more than 20 years. "Pratmakare" is a Swedish word meaning "talker."
