LAWLER -- A 63-year-old Anchorage, Alaska, man died Tuesday after being crushed under a vehicle at a residence north of Lawler, in eastern Aitkin County.

Edward Leo Kareen was working under the vehicle about 1:22 p.m. when it fell off its car jack and crushed him, the Aitkin County Sheriff's Department reported. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A provisional autopsy from the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office indicated the cause of death was mechanical asphyxia due to external forces applied to the chest.

North Ambulance, North Aircare, the McGregor Police Department and McGregor First Responders assisted the sheriff's department at the scene.
