Elizabeth Wilcox, the daughter of Grant and Jan Wilcox, Brainerd, recently attended the Council of Synod LYO Presidents and Multicultural Representatives at Lutheridge Camp in Asheville, N.C. The Lutheran Youth Organization sent youth representatives from across the country, with nearly 100 youth and 20 adult leaders attending. Student leaders shared information about local and regional events their local groups are conducting. Youth also learned about leadership and participated in an Earth Global Simulation, where they learned about the church-wide structure and accountability and social changes for the world. Wilcox is president of the Northeastern Minnesota Synod.
Pastor George and Elsie Cahoon were honored at a service directed by Dawn Squires and Corrinn Cahoon-Neumann for the more than 30 years of ministry in Minneapolis and Brainerd churches. Their travels have taken them to Canada, Germany, Mexico, Africa and many states in the United States.
Thanksgiving service in Palisade
A community Thanksgiving worship service is planned for 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bethel Lutheran Church in Palisade. Pastor Ed Sornberger, interim pastor at Palisade Assembly of God, will deliver the Thanksgiving message. Pastor David Brown of the "Northern Lights" parish of the United Methodist Church will share the Bible lessons and Pastor Bill Sass of Bethel will conduct the service. Bethel is on Main Street in Palisade.
The Backwoods Boys will share gospel bluegrass style music Sunday at the Crosslake Christian Assembly of God Church, which is meeting at the Crosslake Community Center. There will be a concert at 1 p.m. and a performance during the 10:45 a.m. service. Lunch will follow the morning service. There is no charge. St. Mary's Christmas bazaar
St. Mary's Church in Little Falls will hold its 25th annual Christmas bazaar 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday. New will be a silent auction of various theme baskets. Lunch will be available Saturday. St. Mary's will host a brunch 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday. Cost is $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 4-12, and free for children under 4.
The St. Francis of the Lakes Student Council is selling poinsettias for $12 each. Orders will be taken through Dec. 4. To order, call St. Francis of the Lakes Catholic School at 829-2344. Poinsettias may be picked up at the school Dec. 9 and 11.

Light of the Cross Thanksgiving Eve service
Light of the Cross Lutheran Church in Garrison will have a Thanksgiving Eve service 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The Women's Center of Mid Minnesota will be the topic of the weekly forum Sunday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Brainerd. Louise Seliski, director of the local women's shelter, will conduct the forum at 11:15 a.m., after the 10 a.m. church service.
The "Make-N-Take" program will take place at noon Sunday in the Rainbow Center of First Congregational United Church of Christ, Brainerd. All are invited, especially children, to make Christmas gifts for family and friends. Cost is $4 per child with a maximum cost of $10 per family. Each child may select four of the sample projects on display in the center. Bring a sack lunch. Refreshments will be provided. Crosslake area churches will hold a joint Thanksgiving worship at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Crosslake Log Church (Evangelical Free Church). There will be a joint choir, the Bell Choir will perform, and there will be sharing from ministers from the Crosslake Lutheran, Presbyterian, Catholic, Evangelical Free and Assembly of God congregations. Schulte to perform in Advent Vespers
Liz Schulte, the daughter of Joe and Melody Schulte, Brainerd, will be involved in Augsburg College's 24th annual festival worship services, Advent Vespers. "Be Still, Prepare Your Heart" will run 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 5 and 6 at Central Lutheran Church in downtown Minneapolis, 333 S. 12th St.
Advent Vespers celebrates the beginning of the Christmas season with traditional and contemporary hymns, anthems and carols arranged for choral groups, soloists and orchestra.
Participants include the Augsburg Choir, the Masterworks Chorale, the Riverside Singers of Augsburg and the Vespers Orchestra.
Admission to Advent Vespers is by seating envelopes, which must be pre-ordered from the Augsburg College Music Department. Order forms may be requested by calling (612) 330-1265.
Portions of the services will be broadcast 4 to 5 p.m. Dec. 20 on WCAL radio at 89.9 FM.
