I drive 55 on Highway 210 for two reasons. I'm doing my patriotic duty by conserving fuel to loosen the grip the Middle East has on my country and 55 is not a suggested speed, it's the law.
Need driver's training
You people are nuts! I'm taking care of our neighbor kids this week and have to bring one of them to Forestview every morning since the buses won't pick them up at our house. This morning was my first experience dropping off. The designer of the parking lot shouldn't be allowed to design anything else. You don't have a clue how to drive! You don't have to drop your child off right in front of the doors. If you're worried about them being cold, dress them better! Go back to driver's training - you parents definitely need it.
Senior citizens have manners, too
I read an article in the Nov. 13 Vox Pop. It was titled "People still have manners." It was a very good comment but it should have included senior citizens. My husband and I never enter a door any place that we don't turn around to see if there is anyone coming behind us and hold the door for them and we are both in our 80s.
Crossword placement puzzling
For 58 years, I've been getting the Dispatch so I could do the crossword puzzle and check the obituary column to see if I'm in it. In all those years the puzzle was on a corner of the page where it was easy to fold and it laid flat. Now it's in the middle of a page on Sundays. If the person responsible for placing the puzzle was bright enough to do the puzzle, it would never be where it is on Sundays. Can't you do something?
Editor's note: The Vox Pop Department of Fun and Games isn't smart enough to figure out the puzzle. But we're moving the Sunday puzzle in a couple of weeks to the top right corner of the page to make it easy for the puzzle brains..)
Helicopter parents and valet kids
It's the school's responsibility to get the kids on the bus! If the "helicopter parents" (they hover) choose to endanger the child by having him or her wait around until the parents get there to pick them up, why is the school involved at all? Why should we, the taxpayers, build a shelter for these "valet kids" that we would have to maintain and supervise. This is not what our school personnel is hired to do and not what our tax dollars should be used for. Give me a break.
Use of library
A while ago there were quite a few negative comments in the Dispatch regarding the Brainerd Public Library. I hope those people who were critical are continuing to use the library. Our library is one we can be proud of and the personnel are very courteous, pleasant and helpful.
Remove all stakes in Baxter
I have a problem with property owners in Baxter who feel they own the property all the way to the road. I feel the city should remove all the stakes that people have been putting up, and if they do put them up again, they should be fined. When it's icy, cars slide into them and they end up damaging their own vehicles. In winter, our snowplows need to remove snow and they don't need to be running into stakes. It affects them in doing their jobs successfully. Check out the back Parkwood area in Baxter.
Be patient and considerate
I really enjoy Vox Pop. I know and read people are frustrated and upset about different behavioral problems with others - dogs, cats, chickens, driving too fast here and there - I respect their concerns. Accept that there will always be a percentage of the populace living among us that don't conform or care about others and will show disrespect. They will not always be caught. Have patience and be considerate; it will all work out.
