BAXTER - Ruth E. Johnson, age 75, of Baxter, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 18, 2008, at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 24, at the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter. Friends may call for one hour prior to services at the chapel on Monday. Interment will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Camp Ripley.

Ruth Edna Johnson was born on Sept. 1, 1933, in Barnesville, Minn., the daughter of Leonard and Olive (Renish) Burgeson. When she was 12 years old Ruth and her mom moved to Portland, Ore., where she graduated from high school. While in Portland she met and married Daryl Johnson on March 16, 1953. Because Daryl was in the military they lived in many different cities during his career and during this time she was active in the Officer's Wives Club. While in Portland she worked for Bell Telephone Co. and while they were in Minnesota she worked for the radio stations in Marshall and Brainerd. She will be remembered for her sense of humor and quick wit. She was very intelligent and enjoyed debating politics.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Olive; and her husband, Daryl in 2003. She will be lovingly missed by her sisters, Jeanette Wiltz, of Brainerd, Minn., Fern Klein, of Barnesville, Minn., and Virginia Anderson, of Onamia, Minn.; sister-in-law, Shirley Bennett, of California; several nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
