Staples-Motley graduate Melissa Roberts was named a senior captain for the Bemidji State University women's basketball team.
The daughter of Steve and Susan Roberts is a business management and entrepreneurial small business major.
Also on the BSU roster are Crosby-Ironton High School and Central Lakes College graduate Kim Rosecrans and Brainerd High School grad Megan Bates.
Mid-State announces volleyball team
Brigetta Berg, Steph Perkins, Courtney Volkmann and Brittney Noon of the Mid-State Conference champion Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines were named to the all-conference team.
Joining the foursome were Brooke Simonson, Cydney Hasselberg and Nikki Pearson of Staples-Motley; Sam Stanfield and Lacey Lindahl of Crosby-Ironton; Renee Kardell and Kirsten Noska of Pequot Lakes; Morgan Lof and Abby Hoganson of Detroit Lakes; and Hannah Wolff of Park Rapids.
Patriots football announces award winners
Cody Chambers was named the Pequot Lakes Patriots football team's most valuable player at the team's banquet.
Offensive MVPs were Nic Johnsen, Matt Michaelson and Jeff Redmond. Defensive MVP also was Chambers.
Nic Greer was the special teams MVP. Nic Harrison and Cody Carlson were awarded the Patriot Award. Jacob Box was the scout team player of the year.
Michaelson, Carlson, Johnsen, Redmond and Chambers were named to the All-Heart O'Lakes Conference North team. Derek Grunzke, Harrison, Zach Humphrey, Greer and Michael Ward received honorable mention.
Baxter offering pond hockey
Baxter Parks and Recreation, in partnership with School District 181 Community Education, is offering pond hockey for youths ages 5-18.
The program begins Dec. 13 and runs through February.
Ages 5-7, Little Huskies, learn to skate, fee $27.
Ages 8-10, Ice Pups, $37.
Ages 11-15, Ice Dogs, $37.
Ages 16-18, $37.

Deadline to avoid a $5 late fee is Dec. 7.
Broomball deadline Friday
Friday is the deadline for teams to register for the Brainerd Parks and Recreation Department's broomball league. A $100 non-refundable deposit is required when registering.
Games will be played Wednesday nights at the Gold Medal Arena. The first night of league play will be Dec. 3.
Register at the Brainerd Parks and Recreation office, located in Lum Park, during business hours Monday through Friday. Or go to www.brainerdparks.com to get a mail-in registration form, which must be postmarked no later than Friday.
