PIERZ -- Alberta Catherine (Standfield) Rehling, 89, of Pierz, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, in St. Mary's Villas in Pierz. She was born April 6, 1915, in Byron, Minn., to Albert and Bessie (Chilson) Standfield. Alberta was united in marriage to Merle Rehling Sr. They farmed in Pine Island until 1951 when they, along with their 10 children and her father moved to Pine Center. After Merle became ill she worked as a waitress, cooked and cleaned cabins. She was employed at the Raven on Mille Lacs Lake and at ARA News Magazine. She retired in 1992, moving to Harmony House, and then in 1998 to St. Mary's Villas, Pierz. She was a housewife and a wonderful mother.
Alberta is survived by two sons, Max, of Brainerd, and Darrell "Ole," of Ham Lake; six daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria (Rich) Kowarsch, of Forest Lake, Sandy (Roger) Franke, of Pierz, Charleen O'Neil, of Brainerd, Dorene (Gordy) Pelarski, of Outing, Donna (Joe) Weber, of Blaine, and Carol (Dave) Conway, of Aitkin; one sister, Alveretta Lybeck, of Brainerd; 26 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren, besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle Sr., in 1967, two sons, Merle Jr. "Butch" Rehling and Larry "Mike" Rehling, four grandchildren, a daughter-in-law, one son-in-law, three sisters, two brothers, and her parents, Albert and Bessie (Chilson) Standfield.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, in Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home, Aitkin. The Rev. Cathie Rhodes will officiate. Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Dykeman Cemetery, Garrison.
