ONAMIA -- Crosier Father Ignatius Lempart, OSC, 85, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, at the Mille Lacs Long Term Care Facility in Onamia.
He was born Feb. 1, 1917, in Bowlus to Anton Lempart and Catherine Kroll. After attending grade school in Bowlus, he went to Crosier Seminary in Onamia from 1931 to 1937. In 1937, he joined the Crosiers in Hastings, Neb., and made his religious profession on Aug. 28, 1938. He was ordained a priest on May 29, 1943, in Hastings, Neb., by Bishop Louis Kucera. He studied biology at the Catholic University of America and earned a master's degree. For many years he was the biology teacher at the Crosier Seminary in Onamia and at Our Lady of the Lake Seminary in Syracuse, Ind. He was an assistant pastor in Goshen, Ind., Three Rivers, Mich., and Dorr, Mich., and pastor of St. Anne's Parish in Doniphon, Neb., Kenesaw, Neb., and Grafton, Neb. From 1979 until 1996, he was involved in pastoral care at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Lincoln, Neb. Poor health forced him to retire. He lived in Hastings at the Crosier Monastery from 1996 until September 2000. In November 2000, he moved to the nursing care facility in Onamia where he remained until his death.
Survivors include a sister, Martha Kuklok, Bowlus.
Five brothers and five sisters died earlier.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Holy Cross Church in Onamia. Burial will be in the Crosier Cemetery. The Office of the Dead will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
Friends may call from 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Holy Cross Church and 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Holy Cross Center. Memorials are preferred to the Crosier Retirement Needs.
