The Brainerd Kiwanis Club recently inducted the officers and board members who will serve during the 2009-2010 year.
They are: Mike Dillon, president; Jim Tousignant, president-elect; Dan Yantes, vice president/sgt. at arms; Mary Pedersen, secretary; Mike Youngquist, treasurer; and Mike Lambert, past president.
Board members for 2009-2010 will be Christa Anderson, John Carroll, Eric Davidge, Jeff Ledin, Dann Melin and Sarah Peters.
The Brainerd Kiwanis Club is part of a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.
The Brainerd Kiwanis Club is an active club committed to addressing the needs of children in the Brainerd lakes area. Some of the projects include the Kiwanis Park, the B.U.G. (Bringing Up Grades) Program for elementary students, the Kiwanis Kids Triathlon, sponsorship of the Key Club at Brainerd High School and sponsorship of the Builders Club at Forestview Middle School.
The Kiwanis Club meets at noon Mondays at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Brainerd.
Light up the Town Nov. 28 in Crosslake
Crosslake's Light up the Town celebration is scheduled Nov. 28. Spend the day shopping in Crosslake and stay for the town lighting at 5 p.m.

NAMI presents awards
The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Minnesota presented Little Falls resident Karri Eckman with a program volunteer of the year award recently at its annual conference in Bloomington. Eckman has been a supporter and facilitator of the NAMI Connection program in the Brainerd area and was instrumental in recruiting others to start a group in Little Falls.
NAMI of Minnesota also presented Brainerd area resident Lisa Fischer with its consumer advocate of the year award. Fischer was recognized for her work with NAMI North Central Region. She has organized donations for the annual picnic, staffed booths at community events and leads a support group.
