A disappointed Brainerd School Board committee learned yesterday that most Nisswa parents don't want to send their kids to Brainerd as part of a new program for sixth and seventh grades.

The selection of a site for an experimental city of 250,000 residents has been narrowed down to either a locale in northwestern Aitkin County or one in Douglas County.

40 years ago (1962)

Some changes will likely be made in Civil Service requirements here to ensure more applications for forthcoming vacancies on the Brainerd police force. The retirement of Captain Bob Titus next fall will make at least one opening on the force.

60 years ago (1942)

Lt. Howard Wallentine graduated Nov. 11 from officers training school at Fort Belvoir, Va. He visited Tuesday with his aunt, Mrs Eva Moran, Nisswa.

80 years ago (1922)

The North and South siders met on the field of battle at the gas plant gridiron, and when the smoke had cleared away, the score stood 24 to 0 in favor of the North side team. Their opponents claim that their score should have been six, but on account of the poor eyesight of the referee it was not counted.

100 years ago (1902)

H. Williams and R.D. King will be home from the North tomorrow. They are very jubilant over their success, having shot a big moose in the woods.
