Over-40 hockey league forming

An over-40 open hockey league is being planned in the Brainerd area this year.

Games will be played on Wednesdays at about 9 p.m. at Brainerd Area Civic Center.

Broomball deadline Friday

The deadline to register for the Brainerd Parks and Recreation Department's adult broomball league is Friday.

A $100 non-refundable deposit is due when registering a team. The total team fee will be determined once all teams are registered.

Games will be played at the Brainerd Area Civic Center and Gold Medal Arena on Wednesdays, starting Dec. 2. Two games will be played at 8:45 p.m., one game at 9:45 p.m.

Teams must provide their own equipment, including league-approved broomballs and brooms. Helmets are required; facemasks are recommended.

St. Scholastica women's soccer season ends

ST. PAUL The St. Scholastica women's soccer team was defeated by Macalester 3-0 Saturday in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Erin Olejnicak, sophomore from Brainerd, had five saves for the Saints, who finish with an overall record of 17-4-2.

Saints' men's cross country season ends

GRINNELL, Iowa The St. Scholastica men's cross country team placed 20th out of 25 teams Saturday at the NCAA Division III Central Regional meet at Grinnell College.

Nick Mangan, junior from Baxter, finished 103rd with a time of 27:25.

Wrestling fundraiser dinner postponed

Due to the Brainerd Warrior football team playing in the state tournament at the Metrodome, the Brainerd High School wrestling club's spaghetti fundraiser dinner planned for Friday has been postponed.
