A Crow Wing County jail inmate was found dead in his jail cell early Monday.
Kyle Jason Peterson, 42, New Prague, was found unresponsive by jail staffers about 2:20 a.m. Monday. Though the cause of his death is pending an autopsy, the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Department reported it appeared to be a suicide.
Peterson had been in the jail since Oct. 6 for violating the conditions of probation on a 2005 conviction for serious felony third-degree criminal sexual conduct, for which he had been sentenced to 180 days jail and 15 years supervised probation.
Peterson was due to attend a probation violation hearing on Wednesday.
The incident remains under investigation, the sheriff's department reported.
