CROOKSTON - Trailing just 3-2 in the third period, the Brainerd Warrior girls' hockey team gave up two goals and lost 5-2 to the Crookston Pirates Friday night.

Emily Brink and Jess Bye had goals for the Warriors, who were outshot 30-7.

"The second was a pretty decent period, we cut their shots down, and were stepping up our game and starting to play like we're capable of playing," Warriors coach Rod Peltoma said.

"Then we got into a little penalty problem," he added. "We took a couple of undisciplined penalties. You can't play a man short and expect to do well against the second-ranked team in Class 1A."

Ashlynn Windjue had 25 saves

Warriors goalie Ashlynn Windjue made 25 saves.

"I have to tip my hat to Ashlynn," Peltoma said. "She did a nice job. She faced a lot of shots and kept us in the game."
