Six Brainerd Warrior swimmers closed their careers with top 16 finishes in the Class 2A state swim meet Saturday at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

Christina Roberts, Krystal Halverson, Emily Dunphy, Erica Campbell, Amanda Bateman and Jenny Wentworth went out in style.

"What a fun group of kids to spend time with," Warriors coach Dan Anderson said. "I'm proud of them. These girls have been down there on numerous occasions. They've had great careers. They certainly weren't intimidated down there."

Roberts churned out the Warriors' highest finish by placing 13th in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.99.

"Christina stayed the same (as her place in the prelims)," Anderson said. "Her time was right there. Like I told her about two weeks ago if she would have three swims under 55 seconds at state she would have been thrilled.

"She wanted to move up a couple spots. All it takes is 2/10ths of a second to move up a couple spots. There are so many quality swimmers."

Strong finish: Six Warrior swimmers closed their careers with top 16 finishes at state.

The 200 freestyle relay of Wentworth, sophomore Brianna Elg, Bateman and Roberts finished 14th at 1:42.28.

"They went a little faster," Anderson said. "They had the fourth-fastest time in school history. I'm pretty proud of them.

"Both relays at midseason I didn't know if we could get either one to state. To get to state and place they stuck to their training, kept working hard and it all worked out."

The 200 medley relay, Halverson, Dunphy, Campbell and Amanda Bateman was 15th with a time of 1:57.43.

"They moved up a spot," Anderson said. "That's kind of the way the second day is down there, you try to move up a spot.

"They actually went a little slower, but you're racing other people. Their goal was to beat somebody and move up one spot. That's what they did and they were thrilled with that."
