20 years ago (1983)

Stacy Hoff, who earned a first trip to the State High School swimming meet at the University of Minnesota, and Greg Steiger, who led the Central Lakes Conference in pass catching this season are the latest Players of the Week at Brainerd High School.

30 years ago (1973)

Energy-saving measures have become part of the order of the day at Brainerd Community College. All venetian blinds and drapes will be closed except when the sun is shining. Sheets of plastic are being installed in the inner sides of the glass windows. The heat in the building has been lowered to 68 degrees.

40 years ago (1963)

A proposal to convert two blocks of Laurel Street into a grass and tree covered mall has focused considerable attention on Brainerd's downtown area. Cars would be parked elsewhere with shoppers entering the mall on foot.

60 years ago (1943)

A city-wide drive for waste paper to be contributed to the war effort was launched in Brainerd today under the supervision of the Brainerd Salvage Committee headed by S.R. Hickerson.

80 years ago (1923)
