ST. PAUL - The Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines didn't win the state title but they achieved their goal - win matches - at the Xcel Energy Center Saturday.
W-DC beat Byron 3-1 to capture the consolation championship and Wolverines outside hitter Kelsi Crawford and setter Courtney Volkmann made the all-tournament team.
Against Byron, Crawford had 13 kills; Volkmann had 37 set assists, three ace serves, 12 digs and three blocks; Brittney Noon had 22 kills; Rachael Carlisle had three blocks; Hope Theisen had 20 digs; and Rachel Craig had seven blocks.
Last year the Wolverines lost their first two matches and did not place.
