MADISON, Wis. - The Central Lakes College Raiders rebounded from a one-point loss Friday to dismantle Gogebic 98-58 in the MATC Border Battle Basketball Classic Saturday.
Nick Grewe had 14 points and eight rebounds for CLC. Caleb Nurnberger and Nash Faulk each added 11 points.
"After both teams had lost the night before, to turn around and play again at noon the next day, and both lost on a last-second shot, it came down to who wanted it more," CLC coach Jim Russell said. "That was my challenge to them, then I challenged them to get to the free throw line. We didn't want to rely too much on the three. We got to the free throw line (23-28) and shot 34-60 from the field (56.6 percent)."
Erik Peeters contributed 10 points, eight rebounds and four assists for CLC.
"Erik led us in a lot of categories and his scoring was up there as well," Russell said. "It's nice to have a returning player from last year ... come out and lead this team. We were pretty excited about that. We didn't know who our leaders would be but Erik was right there leading the way."

The Raiders had 19 assists, with Marcus Ayala collecting six.
"On a road trip like this I would love to have won both," Russell said. "You would like to come out at least 1-1, and we did that. Everyone got a chance to play.
"Gogebic is a Division II scholarship team, so we got an opportunity to play a pretty solid team. We just hit everything we threw up. In the first half we shot 68 percent. We just rebounded well and ran the floor well."
