NOVEMBER 16 - 100 years ago (1909) - A bouncing baby boy has increased the membership of the family of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Slipp. The newest arrival weighs eight pounds, has a good set of lungs and, on Frank's word, the boy very much resembles his good looking father.

Scouting out all the possibilities
A 23-year-old Wisconsin native is taking the skills he learned as a Boy Scout and using them to lead the Pine Tree District of the Boy Scouts of America Central Minnesota Council.

Hanna Lisa Knudson
CROSBY - Hanna Lisa Knudson, age 70, of Crosby, died on Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at the Cuyuna Regional Care Center in Crosby. She was born on Dec. 21, 1938, in Konigsberg, East Germany, to Paul and Magdolene (Bobeth) Schutzkus. Hanna married Robert Knudson on August 12, 1994, in Crosby.

Lawrence H. Hall
MOTLEY - Lawrence H. Hall, age 83, of Motley, passed away early Saturday evening, Nov. 14, 2009, at the Lakewood Health System hospital in Staples.

Timothy P. Bermel
LITTLE FALLS - Timothy P. Bermel, a 49-year-old resident of Little Falls, Minn., passed away Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, at St. Otto's Care Center in Little Falls. Arrangements are pending with the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls.

Earlier this week a Vox Pop writer voiced a concern about field trips such as those taken to the Brainerd High School Farm. As a parent who went on this field trip I can tell you first hand there is an immense amount of learning and first time experiences that take place on these seemingly worthless field trips.

OUR OPINION: DAYS OFF
Government wages and benefits are - and should be - under increased scrutiny in these tough economic times. Public workers deserve fair wages and benefits but they don't exist in a separate universe from the private world.
