20 years ago (1982)

Pens, paper and books are fine for some school subjects, but to learn the full cycle of farming, it's best to work with the real thing -- calves, sows, chickens, rabbits and the rest. That is the concept behind Brainerd High School's greenhouse-farm educational training area.

30 years ago (1972)

Beginning Monday, Brainerd will again have city bus service for the first time in nearly three months. Reichert Bus Service which bid $8,000 for a one year contract will be providing the city subsidized transportation.

40 years ago (1962)

The city's department employees have been spending a lot of time in the cool air above city streets. The men were putting up the new street decorations which were recently purchased.

60 years ago (1942)

The Brainerd Civilian Defense Council, through its salvage activities, realized $2,000 from the local scrap drive, Frank Russell, commander of the defense council, stated at a meeting of the city council.

80 years ago (1922)

A woman has to do a lot of talking in order to explain what she has been talking about.

100 years ago (1902)

Gilhooley: "Oh jist bought me a bottle of hair restorer."

Mulcabey: "But your hair ain't falling out."

Gilhooley: "That's just it! If oi start usin' it now, oi won't git bald when me hair does fall out."
