Bertha Cecelia Anderson (Weitensteiner) "Bertie," of Brainerd, passed away Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, in St. Paul. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arden O. Anderson, M.D.; her parents, John and Bertha Weitensteiner; siblings, Lena West and Carl Weitensteiner, of Spokane, Wash. Bertie is survived by her children, Brian (Candace), Kevin (Barbara), Gayle (Timothy), Ober, Oran and Beth Moorhead; and eight grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers, Otto and Bill (Millie) Weitensteiner; sister-in-law, Lois (Anderson) Ness (Marlin); and several nieces and nephews.
Bertie was a registered public health nurse who enjoyed a career serving the Brainerd community as a school nurse. Having served as a public health nurse during the polio epidemic of the late 1940s, she was a tireless advocate of preventive immunizations and good public health practices. A graduate of the Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing (Spokane) and the University of Minnesota School of Nursing, Bertie was a lifelong learner and will be remembered for her love of parties, fishing and good friends. She will be missed by her family and many friends in Brainerd and at Presbyterian Homes in North Oaks, Minn.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 21, 2008, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brainerd with the Rev. David Holte officiating. Lunch follows. Private inurnment will be in the Minnesota Veterans Cemetery near Camp Ripley.
