Brown joins Riverwood Healthcare
AITKIN -- Curt Brown, a certified physical therapist, recently joined the rehabilitation staff at Riverwood Healthcare Center in Aitkin.
Brown, Baxter, received his bachelor's degree in physical therapy from the College of Saint Scholastica. He also is a certified clinical education instructor for physical therapy students seeking internship education from an accredited physical therapy program.
Brown's clinical background is in orthopedics and manual therapy of the spine. He has worked as a physical therapist for 17 years. Brown also has an interest in industrial medicine -- where area employers can use physical therapists to provide on-site job analysis, back safety education programs and job placement assessments.
Sam is named assistant general manager
ONAMIA -- Grand Casino Mille Lacs announced Tracy Sam, who has worked in management positions with the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe for more than a decade, was named assistant general manager. She will assume her duties on Dec. 1.
Sam most recently served as deputy assistant to Mille Lacs Band Chief Executive Melanie Benjamin for more than three years. Among other duties, she managed the daily operations of the chief executive's office and acted as the liaison between the chief executive and the commissioners of education, natural resources and the band's other departments. Sam also has been the band's director of personnel, the assistant to the general manager at Grand Casino Mille Lacs and an office manager at a Minneapolis public relations firm.
She has a degree in business management from the Minnesota School of Business.
CTC hosts annual meeting
Consolidated Telecommunications Co. hosted its annual stockholders meeting on Oct. 14 at the Brainerd National Guard Armory.
The purpose of the meeting was to review new and old business of the cooperative and to elect directors.
District 2, Nokay Lake, Sullivan Lake and Freedhem -- Paul Nieman and Jerry Palm.

Business expo and holiday event set Dec. 4
The eighth annual Business Expo and Holiday Extravaganza is set 4:30-7:30 p.m. Dec. 4 at Madden's Town Hall at Madden's on Gull Lake.

Business-buying seminar set in Brainerd
The Small Business Development Center of Central Lakes College is offering a business seminar, "Buying a Business in the Real World," from 6-9 p.m. Dec. 4.
The seminar will be in C223 on the Brainerd campus. Deadline to register is Nov. 26.
Instructors Rob Johnson of REMAX Lakes Area Realty and Greg Bergman of the Small Business Development Center will discuss why one should buy versus start new, when one should buy, how to evaluate the true value of a business, what financial information to request from the seller, how to understand those requested financials and the various options to finance a purchase.
Johnson and Bergman will cover non-traditional funding partners, the art of negotiation, who can help with loan packaging and resources that are available after purchase and startup of a business. Several sponsors will have representatives at the seminar to answer questions.
The fee is $40, but $5 less for members of the Brainerd Lakes Area Chambers of Commerce.
