The Mississippi Headwaters Board is in the final stages of completing an update of the 1992 Management Plan.
In compliance with Minnesota law, no reductions to existing minimum standards are anticipated. The goals of the revisions are to clarify language, ease implementation, eliminate duplicity, increase consistency with Minnesota statute and include updated technology (specifically in mapping).
Public hearings have been set in the following counties to answer any questions or concerns regarding the MHB Management Plan updates: 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Crow Wing County; 10 a.m. Nov. 21, Cass County; 11 a.m. Nov. 21, Aitkin County; 7 p.m. Nov. 27, Morrison County; 10 a.m. Dec. 12, Morrison County; and 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 12, Crow Wing County.
Call MHB Director Jane E. VanHunnik at 547-7263 to attend one of the meetings, or e-mail MHB at cass.mhb@co.cass.mn.us, or submit written comment by Nov. 30.
On Nov. 30, the MHB Advisory Committee/Taskforce will meet to consider all suggestions to the draft and make recommendations to the board for consideration of the final draft on Dec. 15. The draft plan will be submitted to the state Legislature in 2001 for approval.
