MORRIS - Amos Schmidt ran for 122 yards and put the third-ranked Verndale Pirates up 8-0 in the first quarter, but the second-ranked Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley Wolverines exploded for 30 points in the second en route to a 46-8 win in the quarterfinals of the Nine-Man state tournament Friday night at Big Cat Stadium.
Schmidt scored on a 46-yard run and Colby Schmidt provided the two-point conversion for the Pirates, who finished the season 11-1.
Led by Levi Nelson's 111 yards, the Wolverines had rushing touchdowns from Nelson, Justin Seifert, Nate Vogt, Zach McNally, Isaiah Athley and Levi Lupkes.
