I don't know who is responsible for lining the streets of Brainerd with flags on holidays but they forgot a very important one, Veterans Day. That shows dishonor and disrespect for the men and women who fought and died for our country.
They should get something
I believe the (Brainerd School District) secretaries are in the same boat. They haven't had an increase in years. I don't know if all the groups should get the same percent increase but they should all get something. I can't see giving raises to teachers and administration and giving nothing to the other groups. If there is money for raises they should all get a portion of it.
Turn the other light on
I attend the Soup Kitchen here in Brainerd and it's a very nice place to go to when people are down on their luck. They have two security lights. I wish they'd put the second light back on. It's very hazardous and very dark to see with one light in the parking lot.
What about open enrollment?
I've noticed that one thing that's never mentioned regarding class size in the Brainerd schools is open enrollment. Certainly if the numbers are substantial, close open enrollment, send them to their home district and the problem is solved. Will the school board please publish the numbers?
Editor's Note: This year the district has 406 students from neighboring districts enrolled in Brainerd schools and 334 Brainerd students who are enrolled elsewhere through open enrollment, a net gain of 72 students spread throughout kindergarten through 12th grade, said Superintendent Steve Razidlo. Razidlo said if the district closed open enrollment, it would mean additional budget reductions. He said board members have asked to review the district's open enrollment figures at an upcoming school board facilities committee meeting.
Where were the flags?
I agree with the person on Vox Pop that flags should be flown on Veterans Day. It was nice that Applebee's gave the veterans a free meal. Thank you, Applebee's.
Health care should be affordable for all
Health care shouldn't be about making a profit. The insurance and pharmaceutical companies have made a lot of money off of millions of American taxpayers because they can charge what they want for medicine and health insurance. Health insurance should be affordable for everyone, not what insurance companies want people to pay for it.
