James Koerper, who has been president and CEO of St. Joseph's Medical Center for the past 10 years, has announced he plans to resign on November 24. Koerper cited personal reasons and said he planned to seek a new position at a similar or larger hospital.

Jim Brockman, personnel director at St. Joseph's Hospital, has accepted a post as HR director at Rapid City, S.D. Regional Hospital. Prior to this Brockman had been Brainerd city clerk for three and one-half years.

Brainerd's school board gave assurances to Baxter last night that the school there will be operated as it is now for the remainder of the year if consolidation with Brainerd is approved at the Baxter election on Nov.25.

Slayer of the biggest deer to date in the local deer and bear contest is Frank Gilmer of Brainerd with a 248-pound buck, just beating out the 241-pounder shot by Bennie Thrun of Fort Ripley. Contest director Earl Mondor says 368 deer are registered thus far.

Clifford Landaker received word today that he successfully passed the state board examination and was issued a Minnesota barber's license. He has been connected with the Hess barber shop on Laurel Street for the past six months.
100 years ago (1909)
D.M. Clark and Co. got their old safe out of the smoldering basement of the Columbian Block but the dial had been burned off. It will be necessary to smash the doors off to get it open. Clark had fortunately removed his books and papers before the fire.
