In Celtic Crossroads, Northwind Crossing plays traditional dance tunes while the Cara Feile Irish Dancers perform traditional Celtic jigs, reels and set dances on stage. The performance is designed to re-enact the centuries-old custom of the Celtic people gathering at a crossroads, building a huge bonfire and dancing in a musical celebration called a "Ceilidh."
The performance includes both soft shoe and hard shoe dances. Celtic Crossroads is remindful of "River Dance" but is different in that the dances performed are true to the traditional dance style of Ireland and Scotland.
Northwind Crossing consists of self-taught musicians. Fran Gack, Akeley, is featured on fiddle, mandolin, guitar and vocals; Tamie Jensen, Becker County, plays Irish tin whistles, recorders, accordion, Celtic harp and vocals; Bill Meyer, Wolf Lake, plays rhythm guitar and vocals; Elijah Jensen, 15-year-old son of Tamie and Steve Jensen, plays bodhran, autoharp, Celtic harp and accordion; and Willis Mattison, Osage, plays bass guitar and acts as the narrator/historian for the group.
Northwind Crossing was formed in 1999 and has performed throughout northern Minnesota at theaters, clubs, resorts, conventions, trade shows, ethnic and community celebrations, county fairs, coffeehouses, churches, weddings and parties.
