AITKIN -- Walter "Bud" Paulsen, 77, Aitkin, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, at the Riverwood Health Care Center in Aitkin.
He was born May 29, 1924, in Minneapolis to Paul and Esther (Larson) Paulsen. He graduated from North High School in Minneapolis. He served with the Navy both in World War II and Korea. He was a 30-year plus veteran with the Minneapolis Fire Department. He married Shirley Kidd in December 1944. She died in 1983. He retired from Minneapolis to Farm Island Lake. He married Wanda Banks on Sept. 30, 1988. He was a member of the Pine Lake Methodist Chapel and served on the administrative council, the Pine Lake Men's Group, the Bennettville Cemetery Board and the Forever Young Club at Glory. He was a 49-year American Legion member and a member of the Minneapolis Firefighters Local No. 82.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Steve Paulsen, Aitkin; a sister, Marion Engstrom, Carmel, Calif.; six grandchildren; great-grandchildren; two step daughters, Carol Walton, East Peoria, Ill., Cathy Carlson, Denver; and step grandchildren.
A daughter, Nancy, and a sister, Alice, died earlier.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Aitkin United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Marston officiating.
Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin and one hour before the services Friday at the church.
