20 years ago (1989)

Laura Jane Musser, a lumber heiress known as The First Lady of Little Falls, will be remembered for her philanthropy efforts, friends said. She died early yesterday at age 73, having called for paramedics, but she passed away before reaching the hospital.

30 years ago (1979)

(Photo) Jim Madden and Peg Madden recently presented a $5,000 memorial gift in the name of the late Jack Madden to John Stensrud, president of the Crow Wing County Historical Society. Also present is Cay Ebert, the museum curator.

40 years ago (1969)

The "March for Peace" will be held here tomorrow beginning at the court house and wind up at Trinity Lutheran Church, with marchers using the sidewalk. Co-chairs for the rally are Dann Spencer and Mary Niedenfuer, both students at Brainerd Junior College.

60 years ago (1949)

Four hunters escaped without getting wet when the truck in which they were riding rolled off the ferry boat as it crossed the Mississippi River just north of Ft. Ripley. The truck capsized in 10 feet of water, but not before the hunters escaped through a window.

80 years ago (1929)

Something new in bowling shirts was displayed by the John M. Bye Clothing Co. team last night at Block's Alleys. Instead of the sponsor's name on the back the shirts carried the names of nationally advertised brands of merchandise.

100 years ago (1909)

Joe Symmington, who has been in the Northern Pacific Hospital for a couple of weeks as a result of his exposure on a bog near McGregor, is now able to walk around but his feet are pretty tender. He'll be able to work in a couple of weeks.
