CROSSLAKE -- David Luell Carlson, age 73, of Crosslake, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd. He was born May 19, 1931, in Tracy to Guftaf "Shorty" and Hannah (Swan) Carlson. At age 7, he moved with his family to Swanburg where he grew up. After graduating from Pine River High School, he served in the Army from 1952-1960. Following his honorable discharge, he worked as a brick mason for McDonald Construction in Brainerd for 23 years. He was united in marriage to Carolyn McDonald Nov. 23, 1984, and loved her children as his own. After McDonald Construction closed, David worked as a brick mason for John Carlson and then for Trana Masonry until his retirement two years ago. David was a member of Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Crosslake. He was active in the Knights of Columbus and belonged to the American Legion Post 500 in Crosslake. He enjoyed deer hunting and snowshoeing. A patient and easy-going man, David enjoyed "puttering" around his home and caring for his yard.
David is survived by Carolyn, his wife of nearly 20 years; his children, Tim (Cindy) Walter, of Hutchinson, and Melissa (Troy) Britton, of Brainerd; grandchildren, Ashley Walter, Marissa, Patrick and Jordan Walter, and Morgon, Emily and Caleb Britton; and siblings Allan (Arlene) Carlson, of Washington, Vern (Eileen) Carlson, of Swanburg, Donald (Arlyn) Carlson, of Swanburg, and Judy Raph, of Swanburg. He was preceded in death by his parents and three children, Suzette, Cathryn and Kyle Walter.
Mass of Christian burial was Saturday, Nov. 13, at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Crosslake with the Rev. Father Dennis Hoffman officiating. Interment was to be at Swanburg Cemetery with military honors provided by the Crosslake American Legion Post 500.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel of Crosslake.
