Trent Meld, the son of Steve and Cheryl Meld of Tamarack, has been selected as the Student of the Month for October as part of a program sponsored by the Youth Activities Committee of the Brainerd Elks Lodge No. 615. Meld is a senior at McGregor High School and is involved in band, football, basketball, baseball, track and was past president of the 4-H Club. He plans to attend the University of Minnesota to earn a degree in mechanics or sound engineering.

Scott Malloy and Magnus Nelson, members of the Brainerd FFA Chapter, attended the 74th National FFA Convention in Louisville, Ky. The two members were recognized as one-, two- or three-star chapter winners in the National FFA Chapter Award Program.

The Aid Association for Lutherans is offering four scholarship programs for all AAL members.

An All-College Scholarship is available to a 2002 high school graduate who intends to pursue a bachelor's degree at any accredited college or university in the United States. These scholarships are renewable at $500 per year for up to four years.

High school seniors who intend to pursue an associate's degree or vocational diploma may apply for a $500 Vocational/Technical School Scholarship. The scholarship is available for up to two years.

Any AAL member who is 25 years old or older may apply for the Adult Scholarship program if they have completed at least 15 credits toward an associate's degree or 30 credits toward a bachelor's degree. Applicants must plan to graduate after Sept. 1. Scholarships are renewable for up to three years at $500 per year for full-time students or $250 per year for half-time students.

Any member who plans to attend one of the 48 Lutheran colleges, universities or Bible institutions are eligible for the Lutheran Campus Scholarship. Awards range from $200 to $1,000 annually.

The following Family of Christ Lutheran School students were named to the honor roll: Students on the "A" honor roll are third-graders Joseph Andersen, Ryan Benhardus, Jordan Nocton and Laura Schoessow; fourth-graders Caleb Moistner and Jonathan Warling; and fifth-grader Bethany Andersen. Students on the "B" honor roll are fourth-graders Angela Small and Rydre Torgerson; fifth-graders Jeremy Bartel, Becky Moistner and Matthew Peterson. Students on the principal's list are fifth-grader Andrea Lemieux and sixth-graders Emily Peterson and Jon Schoessow.
