A group of about 50 Brainerd merchants met at the Elks Lodge to prepare themselves for one of the unpleasant aspects of the Christmas shopping season. Shoplifting and bad checks were the topics.

Brainerd High School was successful in its bid over the weekend to be named the site for the 1969 convention of the Minnesota Association of Student Councils.

60 years ago (1948)

The organized Army Reserve in Brainerd and throughout the area are observing Armistice Day today with an open house - a means of acquainting residents of this city and locality in the patriotic work being done by reservists in behalf of the national defense.

80 years ago (1928)

The greatest rush of deer hunters into the woods of Minnesota ever known at one time was evidenced over the past weekend when more than 50,000 hunters tramped the woods north of Brainerd.

100 years ago (1908)

John J. McCarthy arrived this afternoon from Missoula, Mont., where he has been for nearly two years. He has sold his moving picture show there. He looks prosperous and declares himself so.
