Dena Doughty of Pequot Lakes is a member of a residential hall council at Bemidji State University. Doughty, a junior who is majoring in elementary education, is the community chairwoman for Oak Hall Council.
Kayla Rollins of Pine River is a member of a residential hall council at Bemidji State University. Rollins, a junior majoring in computer science, is the community chairwoman for Maple Hall Council.
Tameaka Ann Crocker, the daughter of Gregory and Kathleen Kretzman of Baxter, will be interning this semester as a Leadership Education and Development tutor coordinator at Hancock-Hamline University Collaborative Magnet School in St. Paul. Crocker is majoring in philosophy.
Jared R. Reese, a 1999 graduate of Brainerd High School, had been admitted into the University of Minnesota Duluth School of Medicine.
The following Franklin Junior High School students were selected as October students of the month: Eighth-graders Jacob Hradsky, Kori Longanecker, Jack Freeman, Tawnee Maldonado, Michael Larson, Timothy Yezek, Kelsey Jewell and Cassandra Degeest. Ninth-graders Maggie Boland, Erin Sullivan, Leilani Wayt, Jordan Brendel, Alyssa Curren, Brittney Nelson, Joshua Nelson, Giles Radtke, Randi Rychner, Michael Reponen, Sarah Middendorf, Jennifer Dens and Jessica Forstner.
Maria Flicker, the daughter of Mark and Hilde Flicker of Pierz, has been named as October student of the month at St. Francis Music center in Little Falls. Flicker is a senior at Pierz Healy High School and has studied piano for nine years. Flicker is involved in National Honor Society, pop choir, School Health Council, German and drama clubs and Students Against Drunk Driving. She also participated in church youth group and church choirs. Flicker's teacher nominated her for the award and said she is an exemplary student and is highly dedicated.
The Mille Lacs Lake Lions is giving three scholarships of $1,000 each to non-traditional students. The winners will be determined by applicants involvement in community activities, probable success in their chosen field and financial need. The scholarship can be used for a full-time or part-time program. Applications are available at Central Lakes College in Brainerd, must be post marked no later than Dec. 6 and sent to Karen Raddatz, 21334 County Road 22, Brainerd. Winners will be notified by Dec. 18.
