20 years ago (1989)

Larry Mellilo, an architect, and six other members of an urban design team, are set to arrive in Brainerd for a five-day visit to develop a community-wide improvement plan. It's called a Regional/Urban Design Assistance team - or RUDAT.

30 years ago (1979)

A Brainerd man, convicted of careless driving, learned the power a judge has. When he used profanity in asking Judge Sears a question, he was warned. He did it again and got 30 days for contempt of court. By the time he finished he racked up 195 days in jail.

40 years ago (1969)

A Clarissa man is in good condition at St. Joseph's Hospital with a bullet wound in his side following an early morning shooting involving a Brainerd man and his ex-wife at the Al-Mar Motel, north of Brainerd. The shooter turned himself in to the sheriff's office.

60 years ago (1949)

I wanted to show him he couldn't run me off, said a 19-year-old Pillager farm boy charged with assault in court today for beating up a west Brainerd man on the steps of the Riverside School after a PTA meeting. The boy had been disturbing the meeting.

100 years ago (1909)

H. Goldsberry, of Mission, claims that he was held up in east Brainerd last evening at 6:30, but the police and others believe his story is a fake, put up to square himself when he got home. Chief Quinn believed he was around a drinking place spending his money.
