An 82-year-old Royalton man died from injuries suffered in a single-vehicle collision at 6:13 p.m. Sunday on Highway 371, eight miles south of Brainerd.
Brainerd youth's death investigated as a suicide
The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Department about 7 a.m. Tuesday morning investigated the death of a Cole W. Maier, 15, at his residence on Indigo Road north of Brainerd.

Holiday closing hours for landfill discussed; hours altered to help haulers
Eric Loge, Waste Partners owner, told Crow Wing County commissioners that closing the county's landfill on Dec. 26 and Jan. 2 in addition to being closed during the holiday weekend was posing a problem for garbage haulers.

The body of a severely beaten unidentified American Indian man was found early Monday morning in the basement of a home in rural Cass Lake, the Cass County Sheriff's Department reported.

What were they thinking when they designed and striped the College Road and Crow Wing County Road 48 intersection? If they added 5 feet more of width to the road they could've done a concrete median similar to Washington Street and provided three lanes as you approach the intersection.

Serving one's country is one of the greatest acts a citizen can do. The United States has a long list of these special people, and that list continues to grow every day. These individuals have fought to preserve freedom and to defend our nation throughout the world.
Focus on addiction not the drug
Methamphetamine is definitely a problem. In the Brainerd lakes area it has become an epidemic. It is a national problem as well. We have a great many people who are involved in its use, manufacture, procurement and selling. The number of people who use this chemical are significant. It is a serious problem and we need to do something about it.
