WALKER -- The Cass County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors voted at a Nov. 2 meeting to meet with the Leech Lake Tribal Council and Cass County Board on Nov. 30 to sign a joint management agreement for Roosevelt Canal on Leech Lake.
The soil and water board also accepted a leadership role in establishing a long-term policy on sewage treatment needs for the county.
Members voted to support legislation to streamline the state sewage treatment system loan program to make it easier for individual counties to establish a local loan fund.
They seek cooperation from the county highway department to mow road rights-of-way earlier than in the past to prevent weed seeds from spreading as mowing is done.
They support a cost analysis study of SWCD and other related state funded programs.
The board will hold only annual meetings in future years rather than quarterly, with special meetings to be called as needed.
