Russell Van Horn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Van Horn of Aitkin, was recently selected as Student of the Month for November, a recognition program sponsored by the Youth Activities Committee of Brainerd Elks Lodge 615.

30 years ago (1971)

With the recent acquisition of more equipment, the Cuyuna Range District Hospital in Crosby now has a coronary care center fitted out with well over $10,000 in medical services.

40 years ago (1961)

Civil Defense director for Brainerd, Robert Fitzsimmons, is now taking steps to determine which buildings in the city provide fall-out shelter or protection.

60 years ago (1941)

Misses Arline Hagberg, Hildegard Holm, Helen McKay, Muriel Arensberger and Mildred Jensen left this morning for Minneapolis where they will witness the Minnesota-Nebraska football game.

80 years ago (1921)

Professor: "How was Alexander II of Russia killed?"

Student (vaguely): "By a bomb."

Professor: "Be a little more explicit, please."

Student (in desperation): "Well, you see -- er -- it exploded."

Mrs. Suburb: "O, my dear, that magnificent watch dog you brought home yesterday is gone."

Mr. Suburb: "Eh? Did he break his chain?"

Mrs. Suburb: "No, but an ugly looking tramp came around and acted so terribly that I let the dog loose, but instead of tearing the tramp to pieces he went off with him."

Mr. Suburb: "Great Scot! It must have been the same tramp I bought him off."
