BACKUS -- The Cass County Sheriff's Department reported an airplane crashed Wednesday night near Backus.
The accident happened after 8 p.m. near county roads 87 and 64 west of Backus, the sheriff's department reported.
The Cass County Sheriff's Department reported the pilot, from Park Rapids, suffered only a bump on his head.
Bob Handschiegel, regional operations officer with the Great Lakes Region of the Federal Aviation Administration in Chicago, said the FAA was notified of the crash about 5 a.m. today.
Handschiegel said an FAA investigator was traveling to the crash site today.
The FAA wouldn't release the name of the pilot or the type of airplane, but Handschiegel did say it was a single-engine aircraft.
The pilot was either traveling to or from Park Rapids, the sheriff's department reported.
It was unknown what caused the crash, both the FAA and the sheriff's department reported.
