Host families sought for Amity Scholars

Brainerd High School is looking for host families for three Amity Scholars who will be arriving in mid-January to assist in the foreign language classes during second semester and who will make presentations to interested community groups.

Rachel from Switzerland will be working with the French students in the school district. She is 23 and speaks French, German, English and some Italian. Her major field of study is English and French history. Her interests include literature, music, computers, jogging, cycling, swimming, skiing and singing.

Rocio, 23, is from Peru and will be working in the Spanish classes. In addition to Spanish and English, she speaks French. Her major field of study has been translation and interpretation. She enjoys volleyball, aerobics, listening to music and anything dealing with dolphins.

The Amity Scholar for the German classes has not yet been chosen.

None of these young people smoke or has any dietary restrictions. They will be in the Brainerd lakes area until the first week in June. The Amity Institute was founded on the belief that the study of the world's languages and cultures is essential to the development of international friendship and understanding.
