The city's Transportation Committee was on the right track when studying alternatives to the present system. Yet, the current service -- in light of the voter turn down of Dial-A-Ride -- with some changes and updating and scrutiny, might be just what the doctor ordered for Brainerd.

30 years ago (1970)

The Crow Wing County Board of Appeals and Adjustment has approved Tent City by a 2-1 vote and Advisory Commission has approved the "Breeze" Campground at Hole in the Day Woods at North Long Lake.

40 years ago (1960)

Possibly the heaviest vote ever cast in this area was forecast this morning as observers noted by 11 a.m. that in some precincts the ballots were being marked about five times as fast as two years ago.

60 years ago (1940)

One of the criticisms often leveled at a small city is that the opportunities for participation in the higher forms of entertainment are not available. Here in Brainerd, a movement to wipe away that criticism got under way three years ago and a small group of promoters did an excellent job in the infancy of an organization known as the Brainerd Co-operative Concert Association.
