20 years ago (1989)

Paul Bunyan Amusement Center has purchased Pauline's lanes bowling alley it was learned today. Steve McFarland, a company official told the Baxter City Council that the purchase involves only the bowling alley, not Pauline's Restaurant and Saloon.

30 years ago (1979)

(Photo) Scott LeDoux readied himself for the onslaught of sparring partner young Joe Lewis during his workout at Breezy Point's Convention Center. LeDoux will fight Mike Weaver for the U.S. Heavyweight Championship on Nov. 4.

40 years ago (1969)

On the opening of deer season only six deer were registered at Lassig's Log Cabin in Brainerd, home to the largest deer contest in the area. First in was a 97-pound buck by Rex Schrader, Brainerd. Largest was a 202-pounder by Dan Trinko, Minneapolis.

60 years ago (1949)

For the time being Mr. and Mrs. Bruin and all their little ones are safe from bounty hunters in Crow Wing County. The commissioners have discontinued the $10 county bounty effective immediately, which also stops the state's $10 bounty.

80 years ago (1929)

Right now is the time to say a few words about a certain red-haired young man in town. "Red" McCaffrey - or Francis Leo Patrick McCaffrey, if you please - ran away with the show "Corporal Eagen" last night while playing the title role.

100 years ago (1909)

For the first time after the fire the Ransford Hotel bar was reopened this morning with George Ridley again in charge. The sign was also replaced. They hope to get the kitchen and dining room in shape to serve Thanksgiving dinner.
