Transportation steering panel meeting scrapped

Posted: Wednesday, November 07, 2001

A Brainerd transportation steering committee meeting scheduled Tuesday afternoon at city hall was canceled before it began.

Jeff Czeczok, a Brainerd Transportation Committee member, called City Administrator Dan Vogt and said he planned to challenge the meeting for a violation of the state's Open Meeting Law. The state law is based on a presumption that meetings of public bodies will be conducted in the open. Meetings notices are expected three days before the meeting takes place.

Brainerd City Council President Lucy Nesheim said after talking with the city attorney they decided to postpone the meeting because it was inadvertently not published before the meeting. Nesheim said Crow Wing County did publish a meeting notice.

"We thought we had better be prudent," Nesheim said about canceling the meeting.

The steering committee meeting was rescheduled for 10 a.m. Nov. 20 at city hall.
