Absentee voting is expected to be well above that of recent years in Crow Wing County, county officials said Monday.
Officials with the Crow Wing County Auditor's Office attributed the expected increase primarily to the fact that the firearms deer hunting season started before the election.
The auditor's office said the number of absentee ballots requested here is more than 3,200 compared to 2,168 in the 1996 presidential election.
In November 1998 Crow Wing County residents cast 1,687 absentee ballots.
In most Crow Wing County polling precincts, ballots may be cast from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. today.
