Free vegetarian cooking class

A free vegetarian cooking class, ethnic vegetarian dishes, will be from 4-5:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at Oak Street Christian School, 2910 Oak St., Brainerd. Register by calling 829-1498, preferably by Monday, so that we'll have plenty of samples on hand.

The presentations will be followed by a special feature on wild rice and there will be wild rice available for sale.

Brainerd Elks Lodge Polish sausage feed

Brainerd Elks Lodge will have a Polish sausage feed from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Brainerd Elks Lodge, 215 South Ninth St., Brainerd. Cost: $6.

Brainerd Legion events

A meatloaf dinner by Jim Bentson will be served from 5:30 p.m. until gone Thursday at the Brainerd Legion. Cost is $8.

The 82nd annual duck feed will begin with social hour at 5 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 13 at the Brainerd Legion. Cost: $10. RSVP to 829-2249 by Monday.

JENKINS - VFW Post No. 3839 Jenkins will have a steak dinner at 5 p.m. Friday. Cost: $12.

Commit to quit campaign

AITKIN - Aitkin County Health and Human Services, Riverwood Healthcare Center, the State Health Improvement Project (SHIP), American Lung Association, and Medica are jointly sponsoring a "Commit to Quit" program on Nov. 18 in celebration of the nationwide Great American Smokeout. A light dinner will be served during a presentation that begins at 6 p.m. at the Forty Club Convention Center in Aitkin.

Registered "quitters" will receive packets of information about quit options and the opportunity for group hypnosis with Amy Zilka, a psychologist who uses individual and group hypnosis in her psychotherapy practice in the Twin Cities area. In addition, there will be a short presentation on stress reduction and behavior change. The group hypnosis session will go from 7:10 to 7:45 p.m.

Amy Zilka has a master's degree in Counseling Psychology/Marriage Family Therapy and is a certified Regression Hypnotherapist.

There is no cost for the seminar, but registration is required. To register for the seminar, call Beth Swenson at Public Health at 927-7272 or (800) 328-3744. You may also register for the seminar at several registration booths located about the county, including Riverwood clinics in Aitkin, Garrison and McGregor. If you can't attend the seminar, but are interested in the Commit to Quit, a smoking cessation information packet will be mailed to you.

Sixth annual turkey Bingo

PILLAGER - The sixth annual turkey Bingo will begin at 2 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Pillager Community Center. Bingo cards are three faces for $1 per game. Pay out is turkeys. Concessions available. Bring your own dauber or daubers will be for sale for $1 each.

Brainerd Garden Club

Brainerd Garden Club will meet 1 p.m. Friday at Northland Arboretum. Merv Eisel will present a program on hostas. Hostesses will be Gayle Hertel and Joan Simonson. Visitors are welcome.

Brainerd Elks Lodge breakfast

Brainerd Elks Lodge No. 615 will serve breakfast from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday at 215 South Ninth St., Brainerd. Order from the menu. All funds go to support Elks programs.

Lakes Area Dance Club

Instead of the regular dance, the Lakes Area Dance Club plans to attend an event sponsored by the Stearns County Pachanga Society at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Pioneer Place at 22 Fifth Ave. South, St. Cloud. Members asked to RSVP Ovarian cancer support group to meet Nov. 11

NISSWA - The monthly Ovarian Cancer Support Group meeting will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Nisswa American Legion in the lower level meeting room, located at 25807 Main Street, Nisswa.

The meeting is free and ovarian cancer survivors, family members and friends are invited. The public is also welcome to attend. A light snack will be provided. The support group is sponsored by the Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance (MOCA, mnovarian.org).

The Bee-Nay-She Council Bird Club will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Northland Arboretum on 14250 Conservation Drive in Brainerd.

Community Thanksgiving dinner planned

The American Legion No. 255, Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 287, Elks Lodge No. 615 and VFW Post No. 1647 will be co-hosting a community Thanksgiving dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 25 at the American Legion, 701 Front Street, Brainerd.

The dinner is open to everyone and home deliveries will be provided.
