Brainerd area karateists participated in a rank examination Oct. 26 at Central Minnesota Karate headquarters in St. Cloud.
Yellow belt (8th kyu) -- Kayla Mudgett, Brainerd; Jesse White, Brainerd
Orange belt (7th kyu) -- Brantley Tyson, Brainerd; Emmett Umlauf, Brainerd.
Green belt (6th kyu) -- Karen Storlie, Aitkin; Kelly Anderson, Aitkin; Katrina Paschelke, Brainerd; Megan Tschida, Brainerd.
Purple belt (5th kyu) -- Breanna Storlie, Aitkin.
Purple belt (4th kyu) 2nd Level -- Amanda Anderson, Aitkin.
Boosters club to meet Thursday
The Brainerd Sports Boosters Club will meet noon Thursday at the Sharing Bread Soup Kitchen located at 923 Oak St. between the Triangle Store and Temple Baptist Church.
Football player Chris Klabo, the Warrior Athlete of the Week, will be honored.
Area residents and Koumei Dojo representatives competed at the Greater Midwest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu submission wrestling championships Saturday in Minneapolis.
Competitors included Brock Larson, 185-205 division, first place in Jiu-Jitsu, first in submission wrestling and third in absolute any weight submission wrestling.
Light heavyweight Bruce LaFavor was second in Jiu-Jitsu and first in submission wrestling.
Matt Hyland finished first in Jiu-Jitsu in the middleweight class.
Jesse Marohn competed as a lightweight, finishing first in submission wrestling.
Brainerd defeated St. Cloud Tech 3-2 and lost to Sartell 2-3 Saturday at Great River Bowl in Sartell.
Standings with one week remaining in the regular season are Sauk Rapids 8-2, Brainerd 7-3, St. Cloud Apollo 6.5-3.5, Tech 4-6, Sartell 3.5-6.5, and St. Cloud Cathedral 1-9.
Against Tech, the Warriors were led by Mike Anderson, Lee Anderson and Adam Gangestad with 1.000, .800 and .800 percentage of fills. Brandon Zinda led Brainerd against Sartell with .833 percentage of fills.
Brainerd ends the regular season Saturday at Granite Bowl in St. Cloud.
