Anne Nelson Fisher outdistanced Hilda Lee at the polls to be the next Ward 4 Brainerd City Council member.
Nelson Fisher defeated Lee 550-471.
"I want to thank everybody who has supported me, starting with my family on down, and I want to thank all the voters who are willing to support a political newcomer," Nelson Fisher said today. "I'm looking forward to working on keeping Brainerd a healthy and vital place to live."
Lee was gracious in defeat.
"All I can do is wish (Nelson Fisher) the very best and I hope she has a four-year term that's meaningful to her and Brainerd," Lee said today. "In my own mind the city council needed changes and there they are and I hope it's for the betterment of Brainerd."
Nelson Fisher said the outcome was probably going to be a surprise to her if she had won or lost.
"The Gallup doesn't do a lot of polls in southeast Brainerd, so I really didn't know how it was going to go," joked Nelson Fisher.
Nelson Fisher and Lee were running for the city council seat being vacated by council member Debbie Olander, who chose not to run for re-election.
